Nip-It Pinball Machine For Sale

Nip-It is also one of the popular pinball games Bally made in the seventies.

Collectors look for it because it has some unique features: it has a unique ball grabber assembly, it has zipper-flippers, and the artwork is nice and humoristic.

The game also became a ‘collectible’ because it could be seen in the TV series Happy Days.

Released in 1973, Bally’s Nip It pinball machine holds its place in history as the game Fonzie frequently played at Arnold’s Diner on the American television series Happy Days. The game’s main feature is the “Balligator” mechanism, a ball-grabbing device in the upper right playfield that is activated by a ‘Gator’ button located next to the right flipper button to pull the ball into a special high-scoring lane.

Gameplay

Unique to this game is the gator grabber assembly. This can be activated by the pinball player using a second flipperbutton on the right side of the cabinet. The grabber is located at the top right of the playfield, above the bumpers. It is a metal hook that will quickly appear from under the alligator plastic, go over the pinball, lower itself, grab the pinball, and direct it into the right lane on the playfield.

The rest of the playfield is pretty basic. Four bumpers and some targets and rollover buttons. The game has small zipper-flippers that will close. The small flippers make it a bit difficult to control the pinball.

Nip It Pinball Machine by Bally

As the flyer illustrates, the game was initially produced using a molded alligator to jump out from under the swamp reeds to capture a nearby ball. However, the plastic alligator kept breaking on location, so this design was changed early in production to instead use a bare metal bar to grab the ball, while the swamp reeds lane plastic was redesigned to show the alligator. The game also features a two-ball multi-ball mode.
