Phantom of the Opera Pinball Machine For Sale

I am the Phantom of the Opera!
The “Phantom of the Opera” is not, as many believe, based on the musical of the same name by Andrew Lloyd Webber but on the original French novel by Gaston Leroux. Flipper and Musical appeared at about the same time in 1990, a perfectly realized pinball machine that gives its players goosebumps with its impressive musical background! The printed and painted baking glass is particularly special. With well-aimed shots, the player can snatch the mask from the phantom and make his true face appear.

The Phantom of the Opera is a pinball machine released by Data East in 1990. The game is based on the 1910 French novel The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux, but not based on the 1986 musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber or the movie of the same name, although released around the same time. The game was designed by Joe Kaminkow and Ed Cebula.

The game does not have very deep rules. Game rules are similar to other 1980s pinball machines. There are no modes to complete; the goal of the game is to try to score as much as possible.[4]

Gameplay features include the Catwalk Ramp, a Magic Mirror, a Trap Door, and an Organ that opens for Multi-Ball. The Phantom can be unmasked to reveal his true face on the backglass.

The art, music, and light show give the pinball machine its fitting atmosphere. The musicians use Data East’s stereo system. The richly detailed playfield was produced by art designer Paul Faris. Faris’ daughter is the model for the character, Christine Daaé, on the backglass.

Today, unfortunately, you can hardly find Phantom of the Opera pinball machines in very good condition. The playing surface of this pinball machine is particularly sensitive and has suffered in most devices in recent years. The Phantom is, due to the rather small number of units of 2750 devices worldwide, extremely rare and is therefore very popular with many collectors and fans.

The rules of the pinball machine are relatively straightforward: The player has no missions to solve or anything else. The only goal is to score as many points as possible. However, special highlights are the catwalk ramp, the trapdoor, the magic mirror, and the loud organ music that accompanies the multiball.
